With my focus on movement this month, I have been realizing how important it is for me to move more all day. I typically work on my computer several hours a day and I know staying in that posture for extended periods causes me shoulder tension, so I have been exploring ways I can break that pattern.
The first solution I looked into was chair yoga remembering that I had learned some poses from Toni Bankston, Executive Director of The Mind-Body Center of Louisiana, when we facilitated a lunch-n-learn together at ExxonMobil last year. I searched online and found this page of chair yoga poses that I posted in my office beside my computer to remind me to take a break and stretch.
I also searched for some information about studies that show the benefits of movement, and I found this interesting article with lots of suggestions on how to move more at work as well as information about how prolonged sitting is not good for our health.
Finally, I was excited to read this post about one woman’s experience with shaking and dancing, one of my favorite ways to move.
I’m closing this now to get up and stretch. How do you keep moving throughout the day? I would love to hear more ideas.
